I came upon this video while viewing some of the many other blogs that I follow. I enjoyed it not because it appealed to my photography part, but to my thoughts on life.
Winter always seems to be the season of our discontent.
As we look around us, what do we see, people being laid off, ourselves losing our own job, friends and family struggling to make ends meet.
This short video by Zach Arias helped me realize once again that not only one thing defines you as a person. You are defined by more than one area. I enjoy my job most days, it gives me security and allows me to see my children when other fathers couldn't. I am truly grateful to still have it. In some future I may not.
What else I have is my art and how I keep struggling to be better. Learning to write clearly takes time. Learning to choose which photos to go with my little stories does as well. This blog is my artistic vision of the world around me and what interests me and I appreciate its voice.
We are all a sum of work, family and art. Not just defined by one, but by all.
Patience is the key; there are a thousand sayings about how to have it. "Rome wasn't built in a day" is always the one that rings through my head.
We transform not on a daily basis in any part of our life, but on a seasonal basis. You want something set out goals and work at it. Find people to help you, take a class or just observe those that have a voice that you admire.
Learning is in the application. Apply what you know and keep applying it. Tinker some more, learn some more and keep moving forward. Whatever your goal is on, either work, family or your art. Goals and application is the key.
Transforming takes patience and patience takes time. While that time is happening enjoy what you do have.
